Outdoor artist Jim Rocco is on a mission. He wants to become the Johnny Appleseed of American Flags by working with communities to create outdoor sculpture that honor the history, people and events which make each town unique.
A collaborative effort by the artist and townsfolk, Jim uses reclaimed materials and local artifacts to create large uplifting flag sculpture designed to convey the unique story of the individual community and hopefully renourish town pride.
Edge of America is the entity set up by Jim to help design, build and fund each project. The goal is to involve local communities to assist in creating its own Public Art by providing donated materials, helping hands and use of existing town equipment to safely build the large sculptures.
Per Jim, ‘If you have a worthwhile project let’s talk. I’m open to meaningful ideas and am willing to assist in its funding as needed. Simply, I’m looking for kindred spirits within individual communities to work with me to create uplifting sculpture designed to instill pride, make people smile and last a long, long time.”
My ‘art studio’ is actually the old 1930’s Folly Boys Camp which sits on 18 acres of the prettiest river front land on Folly Beach, SC. Come visit...
