Edge of America

by Jim Rocco (May 2020)

This is my version of ‘Break Glass in Case of Emergency.’ It is a back stop. Its purpose is to find common ground to calm the divisiveness we feel today. Before our focus on differences threatens to push us off the edge; come to the Edge. Literally come meet at the edge of the Edge of America. What’s waiting is a three-sided sculpture (10’ wide x 15’ high) made solely from the bridge’s timbers, bolts and nails that once connected this island to the mainland of Folly Beach. An anchored last stop for disagreeing Americans to meet and try just one more time. Hopefully we’ll agree on how fortunate we are and walk away with more understanding and compassion.
